| <何时需要履历表>
在目前就业竞争激烈,甚至应徵清洁工,都要先送履历表筛选的情况下,准备一份吸引人的英文履历表,是在美国找工作的第一步。用电脑或打字机打一份完美的履历表,告诉对方您是谁,您懂些甚麽,以及您做过些甚麽,然後把握每一个机会分送出去,以求得面谈的机会,是最普遍的求职方式。到任何公司去找工作,都需要填工作申请表(application form) 时,如果带一份履历表抄写过去,不但省时省力,而且不会填错资料。 我认为即使不在找工作的人,也该在电脑中打好履历表存起来,而且随时更新变动,以备不时之需。在许多需要介绍自己的场合,例如做义工时,或接受邀请演讲时,有一份履历表可以让人一目了然,加深别人的印象,也省去自己许多唇舌。 根据统计,一般公司只花二 秒钟的时间看一张履历表,就决定要不要面谈此人,所以履历表要「简洁有力」、「嵌合徵才条件」最重要,否则,再好的经历、学历都没有登门一谈的机会。 <亲自撰写履历的重要> 虽然现在电脑的求职网页上,有许多现成的履历表格式,只要依序填入自己资料,或是有许多代写履历表的机构,但是履历表最好能够自己亲自编写。一来不会千篇一律,毫无特色,因为只有自己才最了解自己。二来在编辑履历表的过程中,可以对自己的经历、学历,作一番整理与复习,将来面谈时,才能从容地回答问题。 我在工作上会个别教导华人,如何写履历,并帮忙删改、校对,但是一定要请当事人自己拟稿,因为我常看到有些职业训练学校替学生写履历,不但完全一个模式,而且当事人根本不熟悉内容,这在将来面谈的时候会出很大的问题。如果公司在雇用人之後,发现有不实的资料,一定会马上解雇,而且将来别家公司知道,也绝对不会录用。不可不慎。 <写履历表的基本概念> 英文履历表的写作虽然没有固定的格式,但是以清爽、明白为最重要。要在一页纸上把自己的特色经历呈现出来,希望筛选的人能慧眼识英雄,给予面谈的机会,必须要再三斟酌修改,在外观及英文文法上,达到完美的地步。而且要准备多种版本,以应徵不同的工作职位,或因应不同的工作资格要求,不能一份履历走天下。 大公司的履历表都是先到人事室或专门负责招聘的人手上,他们也许不是从事您的专业,所以在作履历表时要假想对方对您的专业并不深入了解,不要太用专业术语,通常细节是要到面谈时见到部门的负责人,才有充分表现的机会。 我在办公室负责华人的就业服务,很感慨许多新移民不了解履历表完美性的重要。常常当我面谈求职者时,看到有非常适合的工作,但是公司要求先送履历表过去,我请求职者赶紧回家做一份履历表。於是有的随便用手写一份给我,有的向我要表格填写,有的请家人打字後却又用笔涂改,更有的错字连连,惨不忍睹。也有许多博士、硕士学位的高学历、高经历朋友,履历洋洋 厚厚一叠,告诉我他送出去上百份却都没有回音,其实这是不合时宜的。还有就是自己的性别、年龄、婚姻状况、移民身份等资料不要写在履历表上,另外除非您的兴趣、嗜好与工作有关,否则也不要列出。 <履历表的版面格式> 履历表以一张为宜,最好不要超过两张,尤其是一张又多几行的履历最好调整为一张。许多专业人士告诉我因为过去的经验太多,两张不可能写得完。其实,如果过去的工作都是类似相关的经验,可以用 Summary 的方式来浓缩篇幅。 版面的安排虽然没有绝对的标准,但是也有一般性的基本要求。字体以电脑字体 10到14号为宜,而且只有自己的名字用14号,其他用 12号即可。而且不要用多种不同的字体,看来会太过复杂。列印时左、右留白各一寸,上、下以半寸到一寸为宜。除非您是应徵绘图或是设计方面的专业工作,否则不要试着在履历表上显露您的设计才能,要用最保守的格式、最保守的纸张;除非应徵模特儿或演艺人员,也请不要附上自己的照片。 现在许多公司先用电脑扫瞄筛选履历,更有许多要特加注意的: 不要用斜体字、字底画线,不要用阴影、图像,也不要用钉书针或摺叠履历表,如果要摺,一定要摺在空白无字的地方;因为这些在扫瞄时都可能会有问题。有需要特别加强的部份,只要用「大写」及「粗体」来区别就够了。 <履历表样本> 以下是一份可作参考的履历表样式,但是请根据个人情况作调整。例如: 学历与经历的顺序因人而异,根据您个人占优势的项目放在前面。刚毕业或刚职训结业者,就该把学历放前面,若有与应徵的工作有相关经验者,就把经历放前面。Summary 也不是每个人都需要的,从事同一类型工作多年,或是离开就业市场多年再重返就业市场者较为适合。 履历表上不要打出 Resume, Name, Address 等字,只要直接打出您的姓名、地址,及联络资料即可,最好全放正中,而且放在一起。我常看见许多履历表上这些资料分散左右,字又特别小,其实「您」是重点,应该给对方联络时一目了然的方便。如果您有英文名字可以放上去,因为中文名字有时让人雌雄莫辨,而且让对方不知如何发音。 Objective( 目标 )是告诉对方您所要应徵的工作职位,只要明确告知一个工作职位,不需要一大堆形容词。许多履历表写了「以发挥所学,发展所长」,「让我学习」等不着边际的话,并没有告诉对方您要应徵哪一项工作,要知道这并不是让公司替您决定您该做甚麽的时刻。如果这家公司同时在招聘不同的职务,而您想应徵不同的职位,则要分别写不同的履历表,不可把所有工作全列在同一张上,因为阅信者可能要把不同职位的履历表分送到不同部门去,他在不知往哪里送的情况下,乾脆往垃圾桶里送。还有中国朋友写「让我练习英文」的目标,公司花钱是要请一位明确自己目标、替公司工作、增进公司利润的人,不是替您安排一个职位或是学习的机会,所以一定要先确定自己要应徵的工作,如果真的不知道,宁可略过这个项目。 Summary( 总说明 )并非每个人都需要。对於从事同一行业多年的专业人士,可以将自己综合的经验列出,这对从事电脑业者、高科技,或研究人士最为适合,还可以分为硬体、软件、网路等项目列出,这样,在每一个工作经验时就不必再一一列出细目了。对於离开就业市场一段时间的家庭主妇或退休人士,也适合用这种方式列出经验,以免以年历列出的工作经验暴露出一大段空白。 Experience( 经验 )要由最近的一个工作倒回去写。工作时间如果是跨年,则不必写月份; 如果在同一年内,则要写出月份。公司名要用大写,分号之後是地区及州,不必写详细地址,如果是美国之外的国家,则只要写城市及国家即可。第二行写工作职称,一定要找出最适合自己工作的职称,有很多在中国人公司工作的人说自己甚麽都要做,这种情况最好是写与应徵的工作相关的职称。如果在一家公司由较低职位一直升上去,就依照年月分别列出不同的职位及工作内容。第三行开始写出工作内容,这是在履历表中最重要、最需要花时间,也是我们中国人在履历写作中最弱的部分。 很多旧式的履历表用 Responsible for …来写工作内容,这不够生动及行为化。目前的履历表最好选择有力的、明确的行动动词 (action verbs),列出自己做些甚麽事,让对方彷佛看着动画片中的您走过来做这件事,走过去做那件事,不是模糊不清、轻描淡写地猜想对方应该知道您做些甚麽。如果是目前还在做的工作用动词现在式,如果是过去的工作,则用过去式动词。 图书馆或市面上所有教写履历表的书或课程,都只列出一长串的行动动词作参考,并没有完整的子句,对於很多中国朋友来说,仍然不知如何使用该动词。我在本文中特别将一些新移民较普遍的工作内容以动作列出,希望能提供大家依自己的工作经验选择,而後综合,灵活运用。如果徵人广告上有列出工作职责,其实最好的方法就是根据广告上的条件及工作内容去发挥。 以下列出几类职业的工作内容,动词全部用「过去式」时态,是因为许多人会疏忽: 已不在职的工作要用过去式。在每类职业之後,「举例」的目的,是因为许多人都认为别人应该知道自己做些甚麽,或是认为自己甚麽都做,所以不必甚麽都写,并不知道一般的美国人士多会详细列出所做的事,当然雇主比较之下,孰轻孰重,可想而知。所以希望大家能学所举的例子,列出漂亮的成绩单。 ---(范例)--- Shu-Jia Chen 168-99 Main Street Fresh Meadows, NY 11475 Tel: 718-369-1234 E-mail: paramita100@aol.com Objective: To seek a position as a _______.
